When society speaks of purity, it usually only refers to chastity—the abstinence of sex before marriage promoted in many religious groups to enforce power or control over women and to influence what society perceives as “femininity.” From my 20s to my mid 30s I was a staunch “feminist” of course. I was a product of my environment and it was only after my spiritual awakening that I gave much more thought and introspection into what being a woman truly means. Being a woman is not defined by the patriarchal-sexualized-commodified lens viewed in most of the western world. My awakening ignited the power in me to understand that purity is so much more than chastity. I have since rejected the notion that promiscuity for both men and women is a sign of freedom and power. I realized that in fact, it is the opposite. Casual sex depletes you and is a leakage of your sacred sexual energy. But sex and pleasure with a divine partner unleashes the limitless energy of creation—it is the most powerful act on earth. Do not diminish its power by sharing your sexual energy with people who don’t deserve it. That is wasted sacred energy. (Read here for more on the problematic ideology of casual sex).
Purity of our Souls is what we should strive for. Keep your intentions pure.
The type of purity I am more interested in is the purity of the heart and soul. Sadly, society focuses mostly on the mind and body. For our minds, we tell people to stay positive and to avoid negative thoughts. We have mental health days and there is no longer a stigma with going to therapy. We use affirmations and personal mantras. There are endless self-help books about mental health awareness. For our bodies, we understand that adequate sleep, nutrition, and regular exercise keeps our body healthy. Some of us eat only organic or have restrictive diets. We practice yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises hoping that spiritual practices can make us spiritual people. But a pure soul comes from deep inner-work, not just from empty rituals without an aligned intention or purpose.
Do you know any pure souls in your life? Here are some of their general characteristics.
Pure souls have sincere intentions: they are honest, transparent, and authentic. They are clear with their intentions and do not aim to trick or deceive others.
Pure souls are full of compassion and mercy for humankind: they do good deeds for others not for their own self-interest and not for praise. They help others out of the kindness of their hearts with no expectation for something in return.
Pure souls have a deep sense of humility: they remain humble and avoid arrogance, knowing that life is a continuous journey of self-improvement and learning.
Pure souls do not compare themselves to others: they appreciate and understand that every human is different and on their own journey in life, and that diversity is what makes humanity so rich and beautiful. They give grace and do not judge, and they do not force their beliefs on others.
Pure souls consistently show gratitude: they are grateful for blessings small and large. What little they have, they share with others. They understand that gratitude is an action, shown through acts of service for others.
Pure souls avoid hatred and envy: they keep their hearts free from the heaviness of hateful emotions and sincerely wish well for others. They have learned how to see the beauty in life instead of focusing only on the negative.
Pure souls are not weak. In fact, the opposite because they have learned how to transmute their own suffering and with their inner strength give only kindness to others despite their own pains. It is easier to live a life of impurities because it is simply going along with the crowd. It takes courage, spiritual resolve and inner strength to lead a more pure life.
Being around pure souls brings you peace, not chaos.
Pure souls love life and it shows. They are beacons of beautiful light and their positive energy is contagious. If you know of any pure souls in your life, consider yourself incredibly blessed. Their presence is a gift to you from God. Protect them, pray for them, send them love because it is the pure souls who do the important energetic work in a world that’s filled with spiritual warfare. It is the pure souls that are fighting the demons of humanity that seek to lie, cheat, steal, manipulate and control. It is the pure souls that are prey for those with evil intentions. Their inner light is beautiful and attracts those who want to manipulate and overtake it. Children are the clearest example of pure souls. That is why it is so important to protect all children. If you are a parent, ask yourself whether you are creating an environment that helps to maintain their pure essence or are you welcoming harmful influences into your children’s life? Are you living a pure life and setting a positive example for them?
We are all perfectly imperfect. We are all made with flaws. But purity is something we should all strive for. Purity is in a person’s character, not just in their actions or the way they look. The essence of purity is not based on society’s definition, but from the Divine’s.
You are the company you keep. Stay with the righteous. Stay with the pure souls and those who value truth and innocence.
Avoid those who display the following characteristics:
Those who gossip and speak about others behind their back.
Those who speak with kindness but act with hate in their hearts.
Those who blame others or seek revenge and always play the victim.
Those who thrive and delight on the mistakes and failures of others.
Those who are jealous of others’ success and secretly wish for the downfall of others.
Those who openly or secretly compete with others to assert their dominance.
Those who have two faces and show different sides of themselves to different people to serve their own interests.
Those who are unkind to those who they perceive are beneath them. Watch how they treat those who they think they cannot benefit from.
Those who flaunt their wealth, status or intelligence for attention and power. Do they share their successes to inspire others or for their own self-flattery? Social media is filled with those who prioritize their image over their souls.
Those who never apologize because they are too proud to admit their mistakes and too weak to repair harms they have caused. They have no accountability and remorse for pain they have caused.
Those who are greedy and hoard wealth and benefits only for themselves and those close to them.
Those who use your weaknesses or insecurities against you.
Those who lack empathy and are not merciful to other people.
Are you aligned with God’s invitation of purity or are you aligned with humanity’s perception of goodness?
Understanding purity on a deeper level is not meant to inflict guilt or shame upon ourselves. Yes, it provides a mirror with which to view ourselves and others. But any triggers that arise should not just be dismissed or suppressed. These triggers are instead meant to empower greatness and goodness within us. This goodness is how God sees us because that is who we all are on a soul level. We each have a role to play in the awakening and ascension of humanity. We are all connected through our Unity Consciousness.
We each are vessels for the Divine to show truth, kindness and unconditional love.
When our vessels are pure, we can embody more of the sacred energies of the Divine and be a more powerful force for love in this world. When our souls are pure, we can touch the limitlessness of our own god-self. We become magnets for other pure souls. We become leaders for our children, our communities, and for future generations. When our souls are pure, we become active co-creators of our lives instead of unconscious followers of demonic agendas. The essence of purity is where divine magic happens.
How do souls become more pure? The first step is an open heart. You must open your heart to the Divine. To God, to Source, to the Creator, to the Universe (God created the universe) to Something Bigger Than you…. It is the ego’s arrogance and stubbornness that desires to control and rationalize. We try to perceive God through our minds without understanding that God is felt in our hearts. Life is too short to deny yourself magic. Waste no more time asking if God exists, and instead use your precious time on this earth to purify your soul. You are powerful but not as powerful as the Creator. Your closeness with God will open doors to Purity that you cannot perceive alone. Purify with intention. Cleanse with divine conviction. This is the daily and constant practice of connection with God through prayer, meditation, deep breaths that gives you the whispers, signs and synchronicities that will lead you to a more pure essence. It is intentional prayer, it is your compassion to yourself and others, it is the laughter and lightness you must always carry in your heart despite the heaviness. Purity is the gateway to infinite blessings and living the life you dream of.
Stay pure in an impure world. You are so loved.
